Vintage 1930s Mechanical Valentine featuring the character "Punch" wielding a club against the devil in a puppet show setting. Work the lever at right and the two characters move. "Punch may beat the devil, As all have seen him do. But it's devilish hard on the level, To beat my love for you." Marked "Germany."
Large card measures 7 1/2 x 8 3/4 inches.
Excellent condition. Shows some minor wear. Tiny crease on Punch's club and on lever. Writing in pencil on back: "To Dorothy M. from Marcella, 10." Bright and clean.
"Punch and Judy" can trace their roots all the way back to the 16th century.
