Victrola Brake and Governors Pads

You will be purchasing 1 (one) 1/2 inch long and 1 (one) 3/4 inch long brake and governor leather for Victrola, HMV and many other brands of early phonographs. These brand new pieces are 3/16th inch thick. Many phonographs were made with 1/8th inch thick leather and some with 3/16th. The difference being 1/16th of an inch should not make much difference. This size has worked well on my Victrola and HMV machines. But as they say it is always wise to "measure twice and cut once".
Care should be taken when replacing brake or governor leather. Carefully separate the "fork" holding the leather with a small screwdriver. You could just cut the old out, but you need to separate the "fork" anyway in order to install any new piece of leather. Remove the old and insert the new leather. Carefully close the "fork" back against the leather with small pliers.
Not too tight.
Don't forget to oil the leather. Three in One oil works well, so does sewing machine oil. I have even used Mobile One. Oil is mandatory or the brakes won't work properly.
The extra 1/2 inch piece is in case you cut before you measure, as I have done more than once. You have a little extra just in case.
I do regret the cost of shipping but it is important that this order be sent first class mail with a tracking number. Otherwise there might be confusion and you might not get what you paid for.
