    Description

Greetings from Texas...THIS AUCTION IS FOR TRAVEL ARM ONLY, NO REPRODUCER, TALKING MACHINE OR GASKET....spent over a year trying to complete two projects requiring travel arms and finally decided to reproduce my needs myself. These are as completely accurate to Victors design as I can accomplish. I made one change, all metal work (screws, nuts, bolts included) is stainless steel unpolished it appears to be aged nickel, polished you can take it to chrome if that is your wish. Thumbscrew design is not perfect but performs its function flawlessly.  I build these to order, so if you have an upgraded or Frankensteined front mount, many adjustments are easy to accomplish with communication from you. (Please read commentary) As photographed, this travel arm is designed to replicate any Victor Travel Arm front mount with a 10" taper support arm and a 10" turntable...ie: Victor P, Victor M, Victor MS, etc.,(assuming horn has not been upgraded/Frankensteined) if you want this arm to work on a Victor Royal, Victor E, etc., it will need to be cut down (Hardware remains the same, length of arm changes) I will be happy to do this for you....
Commentary....Please read:  Travel arms are meant to allow the reproducer to travel across the Shellac 78 with no interference.  Early Victor travel arms were designed to carry Long throat Concert and Long throat Exhibition reproducers. Once you upgrade/Frankenstein your unit (IT MAY HAVE BEEN DONE 90 YEARS AGO) you're asking your travel arm to do things it was not designed to do. A short throat Victor Exhibition reproducer weights more than a long throat, with an adapter it will work. But you have now changed the Physics (REMEMBER HIGH SCHOOL) of what you are asking the travel arm to do. Reproducer, horn and travel arm need to be one unit. A great gasket is absolutely necessary, if you have electrical taped a Columbia reproducer to your travel arm and are disappointed in the performance it is not the Travel arms fault. The horn cradle support offers the opportunity for some adjustment. But if you put a 24" horn on a 8" taper support arm with a 7 inch turntable the needle will not stay on the record and will not play (AGAIN HIGH SCHOOL PHYSICS). This being said, you will be starting with what Victor placed on the initial unit. If your unit has been upgraded/Frankensteined, adjustments to Travel Arm length and cradle support length will allow your machine to play as designed. My Victor E is early, has a 7 inch turntable and a 10" taper support arm (it left the factory with a 7" support arm), had to lengthen the Travel arm, and lengthen the cradle support arm to accomplish great playback.
