UNUSUAL ANTIQUE SILVER GILT COIN BOX JAMES I CROWN c1620 & AUSTRIAN THALER c1590
An antique European silver gilt (solid silver with a pale gold wash) box, formed from two coins: a 1620 James I crown, and a 1590 Austrian Thaler.
An unusual early box...most intriguing & extremely collectable!
CONDITION
: Some expected signs of detail & gilding wear and scratching/rubbing commensurate with age and use. Coins filed for setting into mounts - please see pictures for overall condition. Old file test mark to side of box.
DATE/MARKS
: Thaler around 1590, Crown around 1620, box constructed in the 17th / early 18th Century.
DIMENSIONS
: 45 mm lid diameter, 17 mm tall (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT
: Approx. 85.3 grams.
