    Description

The item offered for sale is a circa 1900 stoneware whiskey jug in a canteen style.  It was probably made by Whites Pottery, Utica, N.Y.  It is a medium gray color, with the advertising and highlights done in cobalt blue.  The advertising is on the rear panel; Utah Liquor Co., 167 South Main St., Salt Lake City"  The front panel has the ever popular group of three men drinking around a barrel.  Some time in it's distant past, it was set down heavily, and a fine hairline crack was formed that goes from one rim, throught the "gentlemen" panel, and through the other rim.  The crack hasn't widened or migrated since I bought it 18 years ago.  The jug still sounds undamaged when tapped.  It is still a good representative item from the area, and the time.  It would make a good addition to any Western stoneware collection, or Utah artifacts in particular.
