Jeanne Antoinette Labrousse
This gorgeous “Madonna and Child” fascinates us. It was done around 1918 by London artist and illustrator Jeanne Labrousse. Art Nouveau in style, it was first published as a one page color supplement in the February 13, 1918 issue of a magazine called The Studio, which was dedicated to Art Nouveau.
Although Labrousse had many shows at the Royal Academy and elsewhere, today this is by far her most famous painting. She was better known in her day as a pen and ink illustrator for British books and magazines. (See sample.) Her work is exquisite and charming. We have spent a lot of time looking at this picture and enjoying it.
(source: uni-heidelberg.de) Original panel was printed and partly gilded on gesso.
8.5 x 11 acid-free archival paper, with about an inch-and-a-third of white space around the picture, so the image is smaller than the paper.
Cardboard backer. Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
Standard size. Easy to find a ready-made frame at your local Hobby Lobby. If you're sending this as a gift and would like us to frame it for you, please convo and we'll make special arrangements for you.
