    Description

We find this a dear and delicate image, its style in harmony with its subject, the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In Victorian holy cards, the dove, while often the Holy Spirit, is just as often a symbol for the viewer, the Christian faithful. So there we are, nestled close to our Mother.
For this old and long out-of-copyright card, we removed the staining and the yellowing of the background, keeping just a bit of the beige to preserve the look of the original paper texture and its antique flavor. We cropped this for modern tastes, featuring Mary’s heart. The original had lots of elaborate, die-cut paper doily fru fru around it, which was a technology they were perfecting, but it doesn’t translate too well into art prints. The Victorian aesthetic looks cluttered to most of us, and it distracts from the central subject.
We hope you enjoy this. Devotional artwork in the home can help the hearts of those who see it.
For framing, we recommend something simple and delicate. A thin frame, not too thick, and not too dark. A warm wood, or a thin gold frame. You can matte it if you want, but with something light, like a light beige. But you don’t have to matte our prints. They look pretty good with the 1.35” white border around the print. The border gives it a matte look, and since all our prints are standard size, you can easily get a frame you like at Hobby Lobby or online. No special orders needed.
Original holy card is out-of-copyright. Descriptive text and image alterations (hence the whole new image) © 2019 by Sue Kouma Johnson – Classic Catholic Art. Prints and Charms available. We are the only source of this image.
We print this one on natural cotton paper, slightly creamy, to harmonize with the holy card. This image should look almost exactly the same for many generations if kept dry and left out of the sun. Our archival prints evangelize forward into time!
    8.5 x 11 acid-free cotton paper with archival pigments.
** IMPORTANT ** There is about an inch-and-a-third of white space around the picture, so the image is smaller than the paper.
Cardboard backer. Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag. Above story of the image included.
