It is a framed lithograph of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the pose of Our Lady of Sorrows (traditional feast day in the Catholic Church is September 15
th)
, informally known as the “Madonna of the Thumb”, and is a favorite image of the Blessed Mother in Roman Catholic iconography.
This is a print on CANVAS PAPER, giving the distinct impression of an oil painting when observed in slanting light; thus, there is no glass cover to the image , which has been presented in a copper gold painted molded wood frame.
It is a quite antique in age, probably late 19

Early 20

Century and the print originated in Switzerland. Note the words in French on the bottom right: 'Imprime en Suisse' and the makers trademark letters on the opposite left-hand corner.
The outside dimensions of the frame measure 19 ¾ by 15 3/4”; the inside print opening measures 16 by 12 1/4”.
The canvas print itself is graded in Very Fine condition; there is a bit or restoration to the copper gold paint on the frame only- a new dust cover paper backing has been applied, all else is original to the piece.
