The Escanaba, Iron Mountain & Western Railroad was formed in 1890 to construct a railroad in Delta, Menominee, and Iron Counties, Michigan and Florence County, Wisconsin. The road was completed in 1891 within the Upper Peninsula of Michigan extending from North Escanaba (in Delta County on Lake Michigan) to Antoine (in Dickinson County near Iron Mountain), a distance of 54 miles. The line transported iron ore from mines at Iron Mountain to docks on Lake Michigan at Escanaba.
