Description
Lot of 4 antique/vintage/Victorian Valentine's Day cards from the early 1900s.Three "pop up" with "honeycomb". See pictures The heart shaped paper lace one that opens up is unused.Large 9 x 6 card. A lacy paper is in back of what looks like a windmill in the background, Cupid is in the middle panel, and a little couple kissing under a red umbrella is the front. Front card says "This gift is all for you my rose. O! be my Valentine and cure my woes." Under the Cupid and behind the couple it says, " If I miss why surely then...I have to reload and fire again." Has wear around the outside edges. The card on the front has some spots that I didn't even attempt to clean off.
Back is yellowed and has spots. I don't see any writing.
Blue "VALENTINES GREETINGS" card is 6 1/2" x 4". The back layer looks like an artist's pallet. A girl laying on her stomach on top of a blue U.S. Mail box with her feet in the air is on the next panel where it says "VALENTINE GREETINGS/I want your heart close to mine/Andbe forever my Valentine. The very front card that pulls down to make the card pop up says, "To my Valentine: Ne'er did Cupid make a picture/That was fairer than your own/Valentine, so sweet and gracious/All my love is thine alone.
I think her foot is missing. The back has a name written in pencil.
The glossy "To My Valentine" is 6 1/8" x 3". Says Printed in Germany. Ornate die cutting. Back panel is sort of a trellis with 2 doves and blue flowers. Next panel is high gloss with a dove and 3 Victorian children. Amazing detail. The front says simply "To My Valentine." Just beautiful and in excellent condition. On the back is pencil writing "to Wayne/from Elaine. Some spots along the bottom edge.
The heart shaped card is 5 1/2" x 5 1/2". The background is embossed flower and heart design. Paper lace embellished with flower images surround a sweet angel pair. Above them is written "Forget me Not." The lace has "accordion" paper so that it can stand out from the background. It flips up and inside it reads, "Young, and sweet and pretty, As a Rose in June, To this tender Valentine, Answer, dearest --soon." No writing on the card. Back has some scuffs.
