    Description

This listing is for the antique Valentine that you see in the photos. I purchased it at an estate sale in Oregon where I was not told its history. I am guessing that it is an antique card probably made sometime during the latter part of the 19th century. It was framed as you see it in the photos when I purchased it. I leave it to the buyer to decide how old it is.
The card is apparently attached to a silk background. I think that there is a good chance that it was framed around the time that it was made.
The Valentine is behind glass so there are reflections in the photos.  The frame measures close to 12 ¾ by 14 ¾ inches. The area of the silk exposed by the frame measures close to 11 ½ by 9 ¼ inches. The Valentine measures close to 10 ¾ by 8 inches. The framed valentine weighs close to 2 pounds 2 ounces. Many parts of the Valentine appear to be hand painted. Because of that, I am guessing that it is at least partially handmade.  The cherub or putti below Cupid has a shine to it that makes me think that it might be celluloid.
Some of the photos (the ones where it is contrasted against the dark frame) make the valentine look like it might be faded. To my eye, the actual Valentine does not look faded. 5 close-ups show 5 minor flaws in the Valentine including pinholes at the top corners, a short and slight crease line, a short break in the surface that might go all the way through and a tiny notch along an edge. I see 3 very tiny dark specks on the silk near the top corners of the Valentine. Any other flaws that I might not have seen would be extremely minor. The back of the frame was missing some nails so I added some finishing nails. There is a crack in the back board. There are tiny dings at the top left and bottom right corners of the frame that I have provided close-ups of. There is other minor damage on the frame that I have not provided close-ups of. That damage is mostly tiny dents or chips in the finish along the top edges and dark spots on the narrow gold colored inner lining. The frame would probaby benefit from a cleaning. The silk lies pretty flat but there are some rolling distortions in how flat it is. I guarantee this Valentine and frame to be as described and represented by the 24 photos after the general description. The photos are part of the description. Please look at all of them.
Please know that the lighting in my photos is uneven and that there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors. Different monitors may show different colors. I often say that an item measures or weighs “close to” because in my opinion no measurements are exact and some things are difficult to measure.
I like to leave feedback after I know that the item has arrived and that the buyer is satisfied.
I reserve the right to cancel any bids without explanation.
I frequently purchase signature delivery for my more valuable packages because of the possibility of them being stolen off of a porch or damaged by weather. I often but not always ship the same or the next day. Often, I have a double wall box custom made for larger items and that might result in a short delay. When I use packing peanuts, they are usually biodegradable. Sometimes, I use used boxes.
Please email me with any questions or suggestions. I do not ship on weekends. I might not be available to answer email on weekends.
