Antique Happy Days Famous Old Rye Whiskey Stoneware Jug Barware Eye Candy. Historically Rye Whiskey is deeply engrained as a distinctly American distilled liquor, heavily rooted in Pennsylvania & Maryland, due to the Scottish & Irish immigrants of the day. Scotch & Irish whiskey are crafted with barley, however it does not adapt well to the America countryside, where rye does. The importing of rum was not occurringhere after the Revolutionary War, so
barley, sugar cane & molasses was not practical & rum was not making its way here, so it was primarily only available in the Carribean territory. Rye whiskey distilling became so engrained in American culture that George Washington ran his own distilling operation at the end of the 1700's into the early 1800's. Washington ran 5 stills creating 11,000 gallons a year at Mount Vernon. It is possible to taste his whiskey today if you visit there. A truly great American President! This jug bottle has two flake chips at the rim, which at this age is just a mark of character. There is no crazing or aging shown of the stoneware itself. The image scene is of 3 gentlemen enjoying a drink of rye whiskey, with the man in the center & the one on the right smoking clay pipes, after their graduation. If you are looking for a piece of distinctive 100+ year old bar display man cave item, then this may do. It has character, history, conversation interest, and just a plain old great looking appeal. Thanks for your time!
