Dogs have been bred for thousands of years, with the most current scientific research and evidence suggesting that the ancient North Siberians first domesticated the animals in Siberia approximately 23,000 years ago. Since then, dogs have been trained to be expert hunters, herders, guardians and loving family companions. This delightful coin issued by the Republic of Fiji represents the inaugural release of the exciting Fiji Dogs series. Each release of the series will focus on a different dog breed, celebrating a diversity of body shapes and character traits.

Reverse: On the reverse, man's best friend is depicted happily trotting towards the viewer with its tail in a raised position and its snout happily open in anticipation of an eager greeting.
