Description

This is a 1906 Atlantic City & Shore Railroad Co. stock certificate.  Number 20 issued at the formation of the company in 1906 and started operation in 1907.   This stock certificate was issued the Atlantic Construction Company who were building the line.
The Atlantic City and Shore Railroad Company ran what is called the Shore Fast Line, which was an electric interurban railroad running from Atlantic City to Ocean City by way of the mainland communities of Pleasantville, Northfield, Linwood and Somers Point. The line of about 11 miles ran from 1907 until 1948, when a hurricane damaged the viaduct and the decline of trolleys meant that the cost to replace it was prohibitive.
It is also believed that the Atlantic City Quakers who helped develop the Monopoly board game named one of the railroad squares for the Shore Fast Line.
Charles and Olive Todd, who taught the game to Charles Darrow, its eventual patentee, shortened the name on their board to Short Line.
A fantastic issued Trolley Stock Certificate with great vignettes of an electric trolley, Atlantic City and the beaches.
Great condition, complete with side ledger and cancelled marks.
Unique and rare.
